Our investigations into the issues surrounding potential information leakage in the new version of EVElopedia are ongoing since early this morning. We have identified the core issue and are working on the appropriate fixes. It was related to some of the customization done within the MediaWiki software to support our Single Sign On (SSO) and not an issue in any way related to the SSO itself. Due to the sensitive nature of these things, and to ensure our engineers are given the time needed to resolve and verify this with due diligence, we will be keeping the new version offline until early next week.

In the meantime, and in order to avoid further interruption of your access to the useful information on the EVElopedia, we are reverting back to the previous version. This version is independent of the changes that were deployed yesterday, so there is no cause for concern that information could still be leaked. However, the website will be locked for editing articles until we redeploy the new version next week; you will be able to read all pages, but you will not be able to edit content on any page.

Outside of Fanfest itself, EVE Vegas (October 18-20) is the undisputed premier experience for EVE and DUST players who like to meet other inhabitants of the New Eden universe face to face and have a great time. For the last few years the event has been growing and prospering under the excellent leadership of the EVE pilot Zapawork.  Last year 250 people showed up in the biggest EVE Vegas to date and great times were had. I myself was one of the lucky attendees last year, it was my first time both in Las Vegas and attending EVE Vegas, and let me tell you, I was ECSTATIC when I secured a place in the CCP delegation for 2013 because this event is not to be missed!

So why will EVE Vegas 2013 be bigger than ever?

The first reason is obviously that EVE Vegas is a giant snowball of fun and if you’ve been there once, you want to go every year after that. But CCP also wants to send more support this year so we’re dispatching more devs than ever, we’re adding tournaments, and in a concerted effort with Zapawork and his EVE Vegas crew, we’re organizing more extracurricular events to make full use of the crazy, wonderful fairyland that is Las Vegas.

This year the event will feature presentations from both players and developers like before. Developers from both the EVE Online and DUST 514 teams will reveal exclusive details about upcoming updates to both games, including the first ever in-person look at EVE Online’s winter expansion.

Our tournament crew will also be on site to give attendees the chance to fight each other for grand prizes in true Vegas fashion.

The famous EVE Vegas Pub & Club Crawl will be part of the program as always and this year the main EVE Vegas party will be held 50 stories above ground, in the rooftop lounge of the Rio.

Extracurricular activities will be offered separately, much like at Fanfest, but instead of Golden Circle tours we’ll be taking advantage of the unique opportunities being in Las Vegas offers (except that opportunity, naughty minded pilot/merc!).

On June 26, 2013 at 23.00 EVE Time our security team was made aware of a potential information leakage in the new version of EVElopedia which was deployed just hours earlier. In response, our operations team took EVElopedia offline for maintenance while our engineers started investigating the issue.

The issue was reported as a part of our “PLEX for Snitches” program, which rewards responsible disclosure of security flaws in CCP products and infrastructure. We greatly appreciate all reports we get through said program and in this case, the helpful pilot who submitted it received a handsome reward indeed.

Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue, and as such the EVElopedia will remain offline until such time as maintenance is completed. 

The API servers will be coming down during downtime at 1100 UTC on June 26th, 2013 to facilitate an upgrade. Service should be restored after downtime. Check this news item for updates on the status of the upgrade.

UPDATE: The upgrade was succesful and API servers have been running smoothly.

The EVElopedia will be taken down for maintenance starting at 23:45 UTC on Wednesday, June 26 and is expected to be back online after downtime on Thursday, June 27. We apologize for the short notice of this announcement and hope it does not have a major impact on your game.
