Introducing the EVE Timeline

Ten years of political intrigue, heroic piloting, great wars, friendships, betrayals and various other shenanigans make for some of the most compelling stories and events in gaming (or so we are frequently told).

As EVE Online approaches its 10th birthday we’ve started to find ourselves a bit lacking for tools to explain the incredible depth and story it has to offer - especially as it just...keeps...growing. So far we’ve had to point people to articles on the EVE wiki, to chronicles, our published novels, scientific articles and even ancient forum posts to pull everything together and give them a crash course in the setting of EVE. Certainly with the imminent launch of DUST 514, set in the same universe, this challenge is only going to increase in complexity.  I’m sure you’d agree with us it could be better.

And indeed it can!

As of right now, we’ve launched the first version of an interactive timeline that explains the setting and lore of EVE Online and DUST 514. To begin with we’re sticking with core concepts: how the New Eden universe is discovered and colonized, how the collapse of the EVE Gate isolates the pioneers and how they eventually become the major empires and controlling forces in this dark and unforgiving universe. In coming months we will expand on the functionality of this timeline to include excerpts from the True Stories initiative as well as other accounts of significant player events. But for this first iteration, we’re focused on the setting and lore of EVE.

If you’ve clicked the link already you’ll notice the timeline is hosted on a new domain, EVE.com. In the run-up to the 10th anniversary of EVE Online on May 6th and with DUST 514 taking an active and deadly place in the EVE universe, it feels like the perfect time to open this portal of all things EVE related.

Once you’ve had a chance to click around the timeline, we’d love to know what other world-shaping moments you’d like to see canonized there. The formation of the first alliance? The birth and destruction of the first titan? The invasion and “burning” of Jita? Please let us know what moments we’re forgetting in the comments thread attached to this blog.

So much has happened in the past years it’s impossible for a single entity to remember it all; only the collective hivemind of you who were truly there can tackle the huge task of chronicling our shared history.

The Battle for Caldari Prime

The Battle for Caldari Prime

These are exciting days at CCP.  Not only are we nearing EVE Online‘s 10th birthday, we are also heading towards the launch of DUST 514, the second product in the EVE universe.  As we gear up for both milestones, we‘re showing more and more of the deep level of connection DUST has with EVE Online. It‘s one thing to say they‘re on the same server, it‘s quite another thing to truly understand the level of interaction the two games – and their players – have and the resulting impact on EVE's established ecosystem.

As a showcase to the level of involvement and influence players of both games have in the EVE universe, we have been hosting a series of in-game events that explain the arrival of the DUST mercenaries and weave their background into the EVE story. The events to date have been relatively contained. They‘ve involved both DUST 514 and EVE Online players, but they‘ve been more focused towards the core community of EVE lore afficionados. These events have however all been building towards something.

That something is happening now.

Caldari Prime has been the cause for bitter rivalry and, at times, open war between the Gallente Federation and Caldari State. It is the homeworld of Caldari and, as a result of a treaty following a Caldari sneak attack, is considered to be a part of the Caldari State, even though it is situated in a Gallente solar system. As citizens of both empires live on the planet, tensions have often run high and rebellious elements of the Gallente population have taken to arms to fight what they see as an illegal occupation of their homes.

The planet is orbited by the Shiigeru, a Caldari Navy Leviathan-class Titan, which serves as a measure of mutually assured destruction should peace be compromised.

Situated in the Luminaire solar system, Caldari Prime has been the scene of innumerable DUST battles over the past three days. The mercenaries are fighting viciously for every district, being contracted both by the planet‘s Gallente rebels and the Caldari State's Provist occupation force to fight the most brutal of wars.

With CONCORD, the in-game police force, now issuing a warning for spaceship pilots, the conflict will be spreading beyond the planet's surface.

As we‘ve hinted at for a while, the in-game events we‘ve been running are building up to major events, and judging by the commotion this week, things are about to kick off. The battleground is set, the fight belongs to you.

If you want to participate in shaping EVE's history, you should monitor the news closely over the next few days and set aside your Friday afternoon (UTC). DUST Mercenaries that participate in specific events this weekend will earn a commemorative dropsuit. The event will also be livestreamed on our Twitch.tv page.

The Uprising – Shaping New Eden’s Future

You’ve all seen the news. There’s a weird and unnerving vibe in the air. The Empires all seem to be having their own crisis and it’s starting to seep out into our world. Every week seemingly random events are happening. Random violence and random retribution. I didn’t make the connections at first. Now that I do I wish I hadn’t started looking.

-----

The increase in events, news and chronicles you’ve seen over the past couple of months isn’t a coincidence. There is something meaningful happening and you’re all invited to take part. We are evolving and maturing the universe of New Eden and in true EVE fashion you, the players, are at the forefront of making it happen.

What is Uprising?

There is a new and unstable element being introduced to the EVE Universe: the DUST 514 mercenary. The full impact of these new immortal soldiers is yet to be felt but considering the force they project it’s only a matter of time before the pot boils over.

Through Live EventsNews ArticlesChronicles and, soon, other avenues, you can follow and engage in the ongoing evolution of the EVE storyline whether your fight is amongst the stars or on the planets.

We’ve already shaken the world. What happens next?

If you want to get involved or tune in, follow our live events channel on Twitter, like our Facebook page, keep an eye on the news stream and most importantly, stay vigilant.
